Here starts an unlikely love affair, which is seemingly doomed as Jack starts to take more and more drugs. This is an incredible memoir because of its unstinting honesty and fabulous touches of humour. Once you've read it, it'll take you a long time to forget the fantastic characters (who could forget L'il Debbie, a 300-pound drag queen who sings 'The Candyman' whilst doing something unspeakable with Mn'Ms!!) But it was Aqua herself who was the highlight for me. How can you fail to love someone who claims that their liver wins their body's 'employee of the month' and who comes out with such pithy and witty comments...just a taster: 'Some people might get obsessed with figuring out how they wound up on the F train in drag, with no bag and one shoe, but that's simply not my style. What's done is done. I'm sure I had my reasons.' As the relationship with Jack deteriorates, the book starts to have a really painful element. If you've ever been in a relationship where you feel you can't control what is happening and you can't walk away even though things are really rough, this book will strike a chord.
